Committee Descriptions

The members of this committee will organize or identify CLE programs that will be available to section members throughout the year.  Want to help determine the topic of the CLE at the Annual Meeting?  Is there a speaker you think other section members would really benefit hearing from?  Help offer valuable education to the section by volunteering to serve on this committee.

Corporate Counsel Award

The Corporate Counsel Award is a new initiative created by the Corporate Counsel Section in 2020.  A recipient will be selected from a pool of applicants who are graduating law school students who intend to work as an in-house corporate counsel and to sit for the Virginia Bar Exam.  The award will cover exam expenses and the first year’s VSB membership dues.  This committee will be responsible for marketing the opportunity within the law schools and reviewing applications to select a recipient.

The Corporate Counsel Section releases two newsletters each year.  The newsletter contains information about the section’s activities and other information of particular interest to corporate counsel attorneys and will be circulated to each member of the section.  Contribute to this committee by submitting or obtaining articles for upcoming publications and sharing practice-related updates.

Mentoring Program

This committee seeks to develop a program that will create a space for experienced in-house attorneys to share helpful advice and offer guidance to lawyers who are new to the practice area.  Mentorships help attorneys in their legal career and help establish and maintain work-life balance.

We all have heard the phrase: “It’s not what you know but WHO you know.”  As busy attorneys, it can be quite challenging to meet new people.  We invite you to join the committee that has the most fun – figuring out how to connect corporate counsel attorneys in a fun, engaging way!  This committee is committed to bringing members together as often as we can.  We look forward to providing opportunities for members to get to know each other, grow relationships and have fun while expanding your professional network.

Law School Panels

This committee is dedicated to exposing law students to the corporate counsel practice area before they graduate.  Each Virginia law school hosts a panel of corporate counsel attorneys to answer questions and share other information about the profession.  Joining this committee will provide opportunities to serve on or moderate a panel or help organize future programs.

Please contact if you are interested in serving on any of these committees.
