Former VSB President Receives Governor’s 2020 Volunteerism Award

Edward L. Weiner, founder and senior partner at Weiner Spivey & Miller PLC of Fairfax, and 2015-16 Virginia State Bar president, has received a 2020 Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Award from Gov. Ralph Northam.

The annual program recognizes “…the outstanding contributions of individual volunteers and organizations to the well-being of the Commonwealth and its people.”

Weiner was recognized as “Outstanding Senior Volunteer” for his over 20 years of service to his community. Weiner developed the Jazz4Justice Program, replicated across Virginia, that has raised over $500,000 in music scholarships and $500,000 in support of civil legal aid programs.

Weiner is also known for his annual Law Day “Weiner Roast” event that attracts over 700 attendees while raising money for the Fairfax Law Foundation and legal aid.

His legal volunteerism includes serving as a former chair of the VSB Conference of Local Bar Associations, as past president of the Fairfax Bar Association, and as past president of the Fairfax Law Foundation. He has also served on the faculty of the Virginia State Bar’s Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course.

Weiner graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He received his law degree from the University of Richmond and his LL.M in international law from the Georgetown University Law Center.
