Virginia State Bar E-News, May 2016

Effective May 1, 2016, the Supreme Court of Virginia amended Part 6, § IV, ¶ 10 of the Rules for Integration of the Virginia State Bar:
Promulgation of Legal Ethics, Unauthorized Practice of Law Opinions, and Rules of Court; Informal Staff Opinions of Ethics Counsel; and Complaints of Unauthorized Practice of Law.

The Ethics Committee has approved proposed changes to Rules of Professional Conduct 1.6 and 3.3, which will be submitted to the council for consideration at its meeting on June 16 in Virginia Beach. The proposed amendments clarify the scope of the lawyer’s duty to reveal and remedy perjury by the client.

Virginia State Bar President Edward L. Weiner has appointed a committee to seek suggestions for improving the rules and procedures for electing a president.

Online registration is open for the 78th Annual Meeting, June 16-19, featuring Showcase CLE Programs and Special Events.

Registration is open for the pro bono webinar, Making the Case for Pro Bono: The Justice Gap, Rule 6.1, and Virginia's New Online Pro Bono Website on May 24.
