Virginia State Bar Executive Director Karen A. Gould today announced that former Virginia State Bar President Jon D. Huddleston’s Virginia Is for Good Lawyers campaign has received a national award from the National Association of Bar Executives.

The Thomson Reuters Legal Luminary Award recognizes excellence in marketing.

The Virginia State Bar was among 16 bar associations and their communications professionals to receive a Luminary Award this year. The awards — judged by NABE members — recognize excellence in marketing, public relations, regular publications, special publications, electronic publications, and websites.  Winners include representatives from small, medium, and large bar associations from across the county.

The Virginia Is for Good Lawyers campaign includes a video project — the Big Picture — and Reflections, a collection of essays by Virginia lawyers and judges. The campaign promotes the role of the citizen lawyer, public service, and discourse between lawyers and the public.

"Way to go,” commented one of the Luminary Award judges. “Success achieved through utilizing a broad range of mediums. The national attention is good for the entire profession. The template to help other bars is a nice service to provide all of us."

The Luminary Awards are made possible through the generous support of Thomson Reuters Legal, which has sponsored the awards program since its inception in 1992.
