Technology and the Future Practice of Law Committee Releases 2022 Report

The Virginia State Bar Special Committee on Technology and the Future Practice of Law has released its 2022 report to assist lawyers with the evolving technology landscape as it pertains to their current and future law practice.

The 2022 report is the Committee's third report, following the initial report in 2016 and the second in 2019.

According to the report, “Committee members are from across the Commonwealth and represent the public and private sector, small and large law entities, and attorneys with general to specialized knowledge of technology and cybersecurity…. the Committee’s diversity ensures that the interests of each member reflects the broadest spectrum of the VSB membership as a whole.”

The report discusses: the evolved business of law caused by the COVID-19 pandemic; cryptocurrencies and their impact of legal payments; alternative legal providers; e-filing; remote and virtual lawyering; cybersecurity; new Virginia data privacy requirements; cloud computing; artificial intelligence; and ultimately the lasting effects of the pandemic.
