Serve Your Bar: Board and Committee Vacancies in 2020

Virginia lawyers – active and in good standing – are needed to serve on Virginia State Bar boards and committees beginning next year. 

The chosen applicants will oversee the Clients’ Protection Fund and the Bar’s judicial candidate evaluation, interviewing candidates for vacancies on the bench. The Bar also seeks Bar Council members interested in serving on the Executive Committee. 

Interested lawyers should send a brief statement of interest and a résumé by March 27, 2020, to Asha Holloman at, or mailed to: VSB Nominating Committee, c/o Asha Holloman, Virginia State Bar, 1111 East Main Street, Suite 700, Richmond, VA 23219-0026.

The Nominating Committee will refer applicants to the full Bar Council for consideration at its June meeting. Appointments are made by Council.

All appointments begin on July 1, 2020. Vacancies include:

Executive Committee of Bar Council:

  • 6 vacancies (1 current member is not eligible for reappointment; 5 current members are eligible for reappointment)
  • Filled from ranks of the Bar Council
  • 1-year terms with potential reappointment

Clients’ Protection Fund Board:  

  • 3 lawyer vacancies (1 current member from the 6th disciplinary district who is not eligible for reappointment; 2 current members from the 3rd and 8th disciplinary districts who are eligible for reappointment) 
  • May serve 2 consecutive 3-year terms

Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee:  

  • 5 lawyer vacancies (of which 3 vacancies are to be filled by a member from the 3rd, 4th and 9th disciplinary districts and 2 member at-large vacancies)
  • May serve one full 3-year term (no reappointment)
