Supreme Court of Virginia Amends Rules of Court; Adds New Rule

On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, the Supreme Court of Virginia amended several of its Rules of Court effective immediately and added a new rule effective July 1, 2022, unless modified by the General Assembly.

The amended rules include those governing access to judicial records, evidence, criminal practice and procedure, and petitions for a writ of actual innocence. 

The Court also added Rule 2:107 to the Virginia Rules of Evidence, Article I. General Provisions, concerning the prohibition of bringing ultrahazardous materials into any courtroom without prior permission of the court.

The Court’s Orders amending Rules 2:1101, 3A:17.1, 3A:18 and 5:7B. and Part Eleven are effective immediately.

The Court’s Order adding Rule 2:107, is effective July 1, 2022.
