Supreme Court of Virginia Amends Rules of Court Effective Immediately
On April 28, 2021, the Supreme Court of Virginia amended Part 6, Section IV, of the Rules of the Supreme Court to be effective immediately.
The amendments affect Paragraph 13.1, Suspension for Failure to Complete Professionalism Course; Paragraph 16, Clients’ Protection Fund; and Paragraph 19, Procedure for the Administrative Suspension of a Member.
At the request of the VSB, the Supreme Court of Virginia extended the period for completion for the Mandatory Professionalism Course from twelve to twenty-four months.
For Paragraph 16, effective July 1, 2021, the amount assessed each active lawyer for the Clients’ Protection Fund will be reduced from $10 per year to $5 per year.
Lastly, for Paragraph 19, at the request of the VSB, delinquency fees and reinstatement fees, which applied to all four rules of court for renewal, were halved.
