Supreme Court of Virginia Issues Twenty-Eighth Emergency Order Due to COVID

On September 20, 2021, the Supreme Court of Virginia issued its twenty-eighth declaration of judicial emergency due to COVID-19.

Recognizing that COVID continues to impede the operation of Virginia's courts, the Court extended its Order through October 13, 2021. Applicable to all courts of the Commonwealth, the Order instructs judges to exercise discretion in how to operate their courts safely; requires screening of individuals entering courthouses as recommended by the Virginia Department of Health; continues the tolling of speedy trial act deadlines; and authorizes the use of electronic signatures on all pleadings, orders, and other documents.

The Court's full Order may be found here.
