Governance

At its meeting on October 25, 2019, in Alexandria, the Virginia State Bar Council heard the following significant reports and took the following actions.

Effective immediately, the Supreme Court of Virginia has approved amended LEOs 1750 and 1872. The Court also amended Part Six, Section II, Rule 4.4, to take effect December 1, 2019, and Part Six, Section IV, Paragraph 13, effective December 1, 2019. Full story here.

The Court also rejected a proposed amendment to Rule 3.8 concerning additional responsibilities of a prosecutor.

The VSB needs lawyers to serve in leadership roles on the Executive Committee of Bar Council, the Clients’ Protection Fund Board, and the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee. The Bar also needs lawyers and non-lawyers to join the disciplinary system and serve on the district committees that review complaints and investigations against attorneys in their jurisdiction. How about YOU?!

Jay B. Myerson of Reston is the Virginia State Bar president-elect designee for 2021-22. Myerson was unopposed in his bid for the presidency.

A Supreme Court of Virginia advisory committee seeks comments on proposed amendments to the Rules of Court regarding deposition notices and the alternative pretrial order for eminent domain cases. Comments due Dec 12.
