Call for Nominations – Virginia State Bar president-elect Irving M. Blank invites members to serve on a standing or special committee. Those interested should complete and return the 2010-11 VSB Committee Preference Form by March 9.

LEO 1852 issued – The Legal Ethics Committee issued an opinion on December 9, 2009, regarding the employment limitations for suspended or revoked lawyers.

Amendments to Rule 1.15 and Paragraph 20 – The Standing Committee on Legal Ethics is proposing an amendment to Rule 1.15, Safekeeping Property, that eliminates redundancy in the rule and clarifies the rule’s record keeping requirements for Virginia lawyers. In addition, the committee is proposing modifications to Paragraph 20 that include elimination of the regulations for the approval of financial institutions as a depository for attorney trust accounts in Virginia.

Bench-Bar Dinner scheduled for January 25 – This year’s annual Bench-Bar Dinner in Celebration of Women and Minorities in the Legal Profession will take place at the Bull & Bear Club in Richmond, and will feature Virginia Supreme Court Justice Barbara Milano Keenan as keynote speaker.

Family Law Section’s awards – The January 31 deadline is approaching for the Family Law Section’s call for nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Family Law Service Award.

Interview programs match employers and law students – Employers will be able to interview first- and second-year students for summer 2010 positions, and May 2010 graduates for entry-level attorney positions.
