Be a Leader at the Bar in 2020
The Virginia State Bar seeks Virginia lawyers and nonlawyers to serve on its many boards and committees that work to improve the legal system in the Commonwealth.
There are three ways to serve.
- President-elect Brian Buniva seeks lawyers interested in serving on special and standing committees. The committees include those that oversee budget and finance, legal ethics, professionalism, access to legal services, and several others. Applications are due February 14.
- The Standing Committee on Lawyer Discipline is soliciting applicants – both lawyer and nonlawyer – for disciplinary district committee vacancies. These local committees review complaints about lawyers and investigate claims within their districts. Applications are due February 28.
- The Bar’s Nominating Committee is accepting applications from Virginia lawyers for the Clients’ Protection Fund Board, the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee, and the Executive Committee of Bar Council. Applications are due March 27.
Terms begin July 1, 2020, and applicants must submit a résumé and brief statement of interest for each candidacy. You are welcome to contact VSB Executive Director Karen Gould to discuss your best opportunity to serve.
Additionally, elections for Bar Council, the VSB's governing body, will happen again in April – for terms also beginning in July. Consider running for a potential vacancy.
