Barbara Anderson Receives Local Bar Leader of the Year Award

Barbara S. Anderson of Alexandria, a principal of the Life & Estate Planning Law Center, has received the Conference of Local and Specialty Bar Associations’ (CLSBA) Local Bar Leader of the Year Award that honors a bar leader who “offers important service to the bench, bar, and public.”

In his nomination, G. Christopher Wright, president of the Alexandria Bar Association, noted that Anderson has been a member of the Alexandria Bar Association since 1984 with increasing responsibility, including serving on the board of directors from 2004 to 2012 and serving as president from 2010 to 2011.

Said Wright, “Barbara is a leader, mentor, and role model. Her dedication to service has shaped the Alexandria community at large and the Alexandria and Virginia legal communities.”

Anderson’s support of the community includes mentoring younger lawyers, working with the local legislature to find a judicial appointment for the Circuit Court after the early retirement of the Chief Judge, and laying the groundwork for the Senior Law Day program for the City of Alexandria that connects seniors to local advocates who can assist with legal, financial and life care issues.

Anderson is a past chair of the CLSBA, and currently serves on the Bar Council of the Virginia State Bar and on the Senior Lawyers Conference board of governors. Anderson is a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Virginia Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

The Conference of Local and Specialty Bar Associations will present the Local Bar Leader of the Year Award during its annual meeting and awards breakfast on Friday, June 14, 2019, in Virginia Beach – part of the VSB’s Annual Meeting.
