Virginia State Bar Annual Meeting Canceled Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

After careful consideration, the VSB Annual Meeting scheduled for June 17-20, 2020, in Virginia Beach has been canceled. This marks the first time the event has not been held since it was cancelled for World War II in 1945.

Each year, the event brings together hundreds of lawyers and their families from across the Commonwealth, as well as many from the judiciary, for learning, networking, recognition of exemplary lawyers and bar associations, and the installation of the Bar’s new president, who for the 2020-21 year is Brian L. Buniva of Richmond.

According to executive director Karen A. Gould, “The Virginia State Bar has a longstanding tradition of convening each year to recall the importance of our duties as a self-regulated profession, to celebrate the achievements of our tireless pro bono volunteers and organizations, to learn from legal luminaries, and to put aside all that is adversarial in our profession to meet in a relaxing and collegial setting. We will return for next year’s Annual Meeting, while we spend this year working together as a profession to find ways to help our communities recover from the pandemic.”
