Supreme Court of Virginia Issues Seventh Judicial Emergency Order

On July 8, 2020, the Supreme Court of Virginia extended the Declaration of Judicial Emergency due to expire on July 19 until August 9, 2020. This is the Court’s seventh order since the Period of Judicial Emergency began on March 16, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Court stated that for district and circuit court cases, there shall be no further tolling of statutes of limitation or other case-related deadlines. Similarly, in the Supreme Court of Virginia, tolling will cease beginning July 20, 2020. Thus, the tolling period for statutes of limitations and deadlines will now be limited to March 16 through July 19 of 2020.

The Court’s full order may be found here.
