Supreme Court of Virginia Amends Rules of Court

The Supreme Court of Virginia has amended the Rules of Court and adopted two LEOs.

Effective immediately, the Court approved two new Legal Ethics Opinions, Nos. 1890 and 1891, regarding communications with represented persons and communication with represented government officials.

Also effective immediately, the Court amended Form 10 of the Appendix of Forms in Part 3A (Criminal Practice and Procedure) regarding the contents of sentencing orders.

And effective immediately, the Court amended portions of Rule 3B:2 and Rule 3C:2 regarding uniform fine schedule.

Effective March 15, the Court amended Part Six, Section II, Rule 1.15 regarding the safekeeping of property. 

Effective March 15, the Court also amended Part Six of the Rules of Court, Section IV, Paragraph 13 of the Rules for Integration of the Virginia State Bar, including 13-1 (Definitions), 13-16 (District Committee Proceedings), 13-18 (Board Proceedings Upon Certification), and 13-30 (Confidentiality of Disciplinary Records and Proceedings).

And effective March 15, the Court has added Rule 1:27 regarding testimony by audiovisual means in Circuit Court civil cases, and it has amended Rule 4:5 regarding depositions upon oral examination, as well as the appendix of Rule 5A:25.
