ASSISTANT TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Virginia State Bar has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and highly responsible administrative professional to perform a variety of governance and administrative support functions. The Assistant to the Executive Director reports to the Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer and serves as the administrative liaison to the President of the Virginia State Bar. Duties and responsibilities are performed independently and/or in coordination with the Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer and other staff as needed. Primary responsibilities include the following: 

  • Assists with the planning, preparing, and execution of Executive Committee and Council meetings
  • Manages logistics for Executive Committee officers and Council members 
  • Administers the nomination, election and/or appointment process for volunteer positions
  • Maintains documentation and records on Executive Committee and Council activities
  • Coordinates the judicial candidate evaluation process for state and federal judgeships
  • Serves as the VSB liaison to the Joint ADR Committee

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree and progressively responsible administrative experience
  • Knowledge of legal processes and terms helpful
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment
  • Ability to organize and synthesize information and materials from multiple sources
  • Ability to work under pressure under tight deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion
  • Successful completion of criminal background check
