Young Lawyers Conference

A Conference of the Virginia State Bar.

President’s Message – July 2017

Greetings and welcome to a new bar year! I am privileged to serve you for this upcoming bar year. I want this to be a year about us leading the Young Lawyers Conference to a place where we are relevant to the needs of Virginia’s young lawyers and put on effective public service projects that meet their missions. I am open to your ideas on improving the YLC and invite you to send your ideas to me at crfortier at gmail.com.

What you see here is a monthly update letting you know of our events around Virginia. If you are interested in helping out or want more information, reach out to me or the program chair and we will try to help you.

ARE YOU IN FOR NEXT YEAR? Thank you to those of you who have stated whether you still want to lead your program or district for next year. In June, we sent out a letter asking if you wanted to continue your commitment as chair of your program or district representative. Your response is greatly appreciated! Please reply (if you have not done so) to Maureen Stengel. If you have great volunteers on your committee, please let us know about them too.

THANK YOU! – If you are rotating off of our program chair or district representative positions, thank you for all your hard work and commitment to your fellow young lawyers. Please keep in touch if you need anything from the YLC or if you have ideas or recommendations for great volunteers and great programming.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS – This past month, we welcomed Melissa Little, Nerissa Rouzer, Giovanni DiMaggio, and Cate Huff to the Board of Governors. Two weeks later, we welcomed Craig Ellis to the Board of Governors. Farnaz Thompson, previously of the Board of Governors, was elected to the Secretary position while Brian Wesley took the President Elect position.

WANT TO WRITE FOR VIRGINIA LAWYER? The December issue of the magazine will focus on young lawyers and the state of the profession for us. Do you have an idea for an article? Send me a note and we will try to work with your ideas.

WILL YOU BE AT ABA ANNUAL MEETING IN NEW YORK ON AUGUST 10-12? If so, consider being a delegate from Virginia representing us at the ABA YLD Assembly. Email me for more information.
