Learn the basics and intricacies of working in a law firm and establish a plan to manage yourself and work with those around you, opposing counsel, judges, clients, and the public.  This week, we start with project management, strategies to work with litigation, negotiations for clients, and dealing with government regulator requests.

This workshop will include, without limitation, concepts related to:

  • Practical strategies for time management including calendar blocking, creating task lists, and creating task matrices;
  • Effective strategies for negotiating deadlines with senior attorneys;
  • Effective strategies for providing clear directions and assigning appropriate tasks to support staff;
  • Ensuring a complete understanding of each project before beginning work;
  • Building alliances with support staff;
  • Managing support staff;
  • Methodologies for determining project hierarchy absent partner feedback (e.g., billable vs. non-billable; chain of command; etc.); and
  • Maintaining an organized office and filing system to prevent lost time, thereby increasing efficiency.
