Time to Talk Town Halls

A project of the Diversity and Young Lawyers Conferences, these town halls meetings (Non-CLE) shine light on some aspects of the current civil rights movement from a legal standpoint.

Episode 1 - Perceptions and Realities of Policing (July 23, 2020)
A panel of attorneys addresses topics including qualified immunity, sovereign immunity, Section 1983 actions, and government response to demands for change.

Episode 2- Free Speech, Removal of Statues, and Ongoing Protests (Aug 21, 2020)
The panel of attorneys address questions such as the following: What type of speech and expression does the First Amendment protect? What is the government speech doctrine? What are the laws regarding removal of statues?

Episode 3: Examining and Addressing Implicit Bias (Sept. 26, 2020)


In our final town hall discussion, we discuss implicit bias, how we can begin to recognize it in ourselves, and what action steps we can take to address it so that people from different backgrounds will feel less marginalized and we can begin the hard work of striving towards a more perfect union in America and within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
