SENIOR LEVEL ATTORNEY:  The West Virginia Attorney General’s Office is seeking an aggressive senior attorney with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience.  Ideal candidates will have management experience as well as general and multi-state litigation experience.   

The candidate must be able to immediately undertake responsibilities for case management from beginning to end including but not limited to case evaluation, discovery, deposition, and trial.  As a successful candidate, you must be capable of handling a large case volume, managing cases as well as the staff on those cases and be able to interact effectively with clients and all levels management. Candidates must also have an active WV license or be eligible for admission.

Deputy Solicitor General (West Virginia)

The West Virginia Attorney General's Office is accepting applications for positions in the Solicitor General group, including a junior/mid-level attorney and a mid- to senior-level attorney to be considered for the position of Deputy Solicitor General.  Excellent writing skills required; clerkship and appellate/administrative law litigation experience preferred.  Must be eligible to waive into the WV Bar or willing to pursue state bar membership.  Positions are based out of Charleston, WV, with some geographic flexibility within the state. 

All attorneys in the SG group gain significant appellate, administrative, and general litigation experience. The group practices at all levels in state and federal courts, including before the U.S. Supreme Court.  Attorneys in the group can expect oral argument experience in the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, as well as opportunities to present argument or second chair in federal appellate courts. The group is a small team, with all attorneys taking primary responsibility for their matters and contributing at highly substantive levels. Responsibilities include primary drafting for major appellate briefs and administrative comments (as well as editing other team members' drafts for the Deputy position); coordinating multi-state efforts for amicus briefs and multi-state litigation; researching and drafting Attorney General opinions, and researching and providing strategic advice on high-profile matters to the Attorney General and other constitutional officers.
