Trusts and Estates Section

The Trusts and Estates Section had 1,722 members as of September 2011. 

The budget for fiscal year 2011-12 was $13,130.   The budget proposed for 2012-2013 is $13,696.  The primary expense items were the costs for speakers at the Annual Meeting, costs for production and distribution of the section newsletter and costs for the maintenance and updates to the section web site.

Annual Meeting CLE Program
At the Annual Meeting held in Virginia Beach in June 2012, the Trusts and Estates Section sponsored a continuing legal education program by Lisa Hughes with Yates, Campbell and Hoeg LLP and James W. Garrett with Carroll, Blanton, Garrett and VanHorn PLC.  The presentation covered was titled “Estate Planning for Lawyers.”

Member Communications
The Trusts and Estates Section published two newsletters, one in the fall of 2011 and another in the spring of 2012.  Each edition included several articles on trust and estates topics and was distributed to all members of the section by e-mail. 

Section Web Site
The board of governors of the section instituted a major effort to convert prior editions of the newsletter to a web enhanced searchable format.  This effort should enable section members to more readily search and access articles published by the section.

Officers elected for 2012-13 were Southy E. Walton, chair; Nathan R. Olansen, vice chair; Arthur Robinson, secretary; Jennifer E. Shirkey, newsletter editor; and Jennifer L. Moccia, assistant newsletter editor.  Martha Sotelo is immediate past chair.
