Family Law

Daniel L. Gray, Chair

The Virginia State Bar Family Law Section had another productive bar year.  The Section presented its 35th Annual Family Law Seminar in Fairfax, Richmond, and Norfolk in October 2016, touching on a variety of topics including cell phone forensics, federal and state laws governing electronic equipment and communication, and our annual legislative and case law updates.  In April 2017, the Section presented another extremely well-attended 33rd Annual Advanced Family Law Seminar in Richmond.

Additionally, the Section partnered with the Criminal Law Section to present a seminar on bail and bond issues at the Annual Meeting.

Our Virginia Family Law Quarterly, edited by former board member Brian Hirsch, continues to serve as a must-read for family law practitioners throughout the state, with its case law summaries and excellent scholarly articles and reviews.

This year, the Section presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Joseph A. Condo of Fairfax, and its Family Law Service Award to Cheshire I’Anson Eveleigh, of Norfolk.

The Section retains its very large membership beginning the bar year with 1,922 members, ending with 1,994 members, which includes nearly 200 judges.

Our officers for the 2017-18 bar year include: Lawrence Vance – Chair; Mary Commander – Vice Chair; Susan Butler – Secretary.

It has been an honor and privilege to serve as chair over the past year.

Respectfully submitted,

Daniel L. Gray
