Family Law

Mary G. Commander, Chair

The Virginia State Bar Family Law Section had another productive year.

Steve Raynor, Secretary of the Section, compiled and produced an index to all of the articles that have appeared in the Virginia Family Law Quarterly and its predecessor publication. This will permit a search of these very useful publications.

The Section participated in a well-received program on attorney civility at the 2019 VSB Annual Meeting in Virginia Beach.

Once again, we had a sell-out crowd at the annual Advanced Family Law Seminar at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. A video of this excellent seminar is available for those who could not attend.

The statewide Family Law CLE course was presented at various locations in Virginia. Many thanks to the Section CLE Committee, Virginia CLE, and the speakers and moderators who made this year a success!

The Section also presented the Betty A. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award to Peter Buchbauer of Winchester. We appreciate the nominations that we received for this prestigious award. We also want to thank Pete for his years of service in the field of Family Law.

Susan M. Butler will be Section Chair for 2019-2020 Bar Year.

The Section currently has 2,023 members and always welcomes more.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary G. Commander, Section Chair
