Corporate Counsel Section

by Noreen M. Tama, Chair

In July 2010, the Corporate Counsel Section had 1,321 members.

The budget for fiscal year 2009-10 was $14,516.

Annual Meeting CLE program

The Corporate Counsel Section sponsored a continuing legal education program titled “The Ethics of E-mail.” Presented by Thomas E. Spahn of McGuireWoods LLP, the program addressed such issues as communicating with clients, prospective clients, adversaries, and other nonclients; inadvertent transmission of communications; and dangers and pitfalls associated with metadata.

Member communication

This year the Corporate Counsel Section set up a group page on Facebook and began exploring social media as a new way to provide information of interest and benefit to members of the section.  The Corporate Counsel Section also maintains an electronic mailing list, which is used to announce section news or events.

Law student seminars

Throughout the spring, the Corporate Counsel Section once again held seminars at the majority of law schools throughout the commonwealth to share with students information and insights on corporate counsel practice.

Annual Corporate Counsel Section regional luncheons

Regional member luncheons were hosted by the Corporate Counsel Section in the Norfolk, Northern Virginia, and Richmond areas.  These luncheons provide an opportunity for section members to network and share information of interest to corporate counsel.

Officers elected for 2010-11 were Ronald Edward Kuykendall, chair, and Sandra Jones McNinch, secretary. Noreen M. Tama is immediate past chair.
