Antitrust, Franchise & Trade Regulation

In June 2019, the Antitrust, Franchise, and Trade Regulation Section had 223 members.

Former board member Patrick Hanes met with VSB staff members to find ways to boost participation in the section. He suggested adding consumer protection law to the section events. He noted that consumer protection law is growing at a faster pace than antitrust law which is somewhat stagnant. VSB staff will work on broadening the section outreach.

Annual Meeting CLE Program

The Antitrust Section cosponsored a CLE at the 81st Annual Meeting of the Virginia State Bar on June 15, 2019, in Virginia Beach. The CLE titled "Caveat Emptor: What You Need to Know About International M&A in the Trump Era" covered issues related to antitrust, export controls, intellectual property rights, cybersecurity, and national security in international mergers and acquisitions. Co-sponsors of the CLE included the Business Law, Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property, and International Practice Sections. The session was well attended with over 60 registrants.

There was insufficient attendance to hold elections at the section’s annual membership meeting on June 15, 2019.
