As of June 2017, the Administrative Law Section had 496 members. Organized in 1979, the Administrative Law Section is focused on the interests and practices involving administrative law and regulated industries.

The budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017 was $7,072.00.

35th National Regulatory Conference (NRC):
The Section again sponsored the 35th National Regulatory Conference held May 18-19, 2017 at the College of William & Mary’s School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The program, titled 35 Years and Still Going Strong: The More Things Change, the More Things…, was approved for a total of 9 hours of CLE credit (2 ethics) and featured panels on a variety of legal and regulatory topics.  The program was organized by Philip “Duke” de Haas, vice chair (now chair) of the Section and Associate General Counsel at Allianz Global Assistance. 

Annual Brown Bag Luncheon CLE Program:
On May 3, 2017, the Section held its annual Brown Bag Luncheon CLE Program at the State Bar.  This year’s program, entitled Trials and Tribulations: Practice Tips for Administrative Practitioners, featured Richmond-area administrative law practitioners discussing regulatory litigation practice.  Attendees received one hour of CLE credit.  The program was organized by Ashley Macko, immediate past Section chair and Associate General Counsel at the State Corporation Commission of Virginia.

The section published the Spring 2017 edition of the Administrative Law Newsletter with several topics of interest to members.  James Ritter at Christian & Barton, LLP continues his service as the newsletter editor. 

Officers and new board members:
This section elected its 2017-2018 officers and board members at its annual meeting, held during the NRC on May 18, 2017.  New officers are Philip “Duke” de Haas, chair; Elaine Ryan, vice chair; and Beth Clowers, secretary.  Timothy Biller and Eric Wallace also joined the board.
