Minutes of the 76th Annual Meeting
President Sharon D. Nelson called the General Session of the 76th Annual Meeting of the Virginia State Bar to order at 9:05 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel. She introduced Kevin E. Martingayle, the incoming president, who had been sworn in by Justice S. Bernard Goodwyn of the Supreme Court of Virginia the previous evening. Mr. Martingayle reported on the actions of Council at its meeting on June 12, 2014.
Fifty-Year Award Recipients
Ms. Nelson recognized the Fifty-Year Award recipients.
Introduction of President-elect Weiner
Mr. Martingayle introduced Edward L. Weiner of Fairfax, incoming president-elect. Mr. Weiner made brief remarks. On motion made, seconded and unanimously approved, Edward L. Weiner was formally elected as president-elect for the 2014-2015 bar year.
Tradition of Excellence Award
Stephen M. Quillen of Russell County received the General Practice Section Tradition of Excellence Award. Mary L. C. Daniel, chair of the General Practice Section, made introductory remarks regarding Mr. Quillen. The award is given each year by the General Practice Section to a lawyer who exemplifies outstanding professional and public service.
Clarence M. Dunnaville Jr. Achievement Award
Martha JP McQuade of Alexandria received the Diversity Conference’s Clarence M. Dunnaville Jr. Achievement Award. Rupen R. Shah, president of the Diversity Conference, made introductory remarks regarding Ms. McQuade. This award is given each year by the Diversity Conference to a lawyer for fostering, encouraging and facilitating diversity and inclusion in the bar, the judiciary, and the legal profession.
