On May 5, 2021, the Supreme Court of Virginia amended Paragraph 4 of Part 6, Section IV, of the Rules of the Supreme Court, effective July 5, 2021.

Update 3/8/21: The proposed amendments were approved by unanimous vote of the Council of the VSB on February 27, 2021. The proposed amendments were presented to the Supreme Court of Virginia for approval on March 8, 2021.

Proposed Amendments to the Bylaws of the Virginia State Bar and Council Governing Election of the President-elect
This proposal seeks VSB Council authorization to conform Paragraph 4 of the Rules of Court and the Bylaws governing the VSB to modern voting practices. The Supreme Court of Virginia must be petitioned to approve the proposed changes to Paragraph 4 of the Rules of Court.
Inspection and Comment
Any individual, business, or other entity may file written comments in support of or in opposition to the proposed changes with Karen A. Gould, executive director of the Virginia State Bar, not later than January 8, 2021.
