Supreme Court of Virginia Corrects Judicial Canons Order

On October 13, 2023, the Supreme Court of Virginia issued an Order correcting its order of December 15, 2021 (effective January 1, 2022) which amended Part Six, Section III, Canons of Judicial Conduct. 

The corrections are as follows:
 
               1.            Page 5 – Exception to Applicability 5
                              a.            The reference should be corrected to 1N(1) to 1O(1)
 
               2.            Page 10 – Canon 1J(1)(c) – Ex parte communications
                              a.            Two references to Canon 1I(1) should be corrected to Canon 1J(1)
 
               3.            Page 12 – Canon 1K(3) – Consultation with law clerks and administrative personnel
                              a.            The reference to standard J(1) and (2) should be corrected to standard K(1) and (2)
                              b.            The reference to standard I(1)(d) should be corrected to standard J(1)(d)
 
               4.            Page 15 – Canon 2E(2) – Refraining from public comment regarding pending or impending cases
                              a.            The reference to Standard 1L should be corrected to Standard 1M
 
               5.            Page 17 – Canon 2L(3)(a) – Extrajudicial activities
                              a.            The reference to Standard 1L should be corrected to Standard 1M
