Michael York Named Next President-elect of Virginia State Bar

YorkIn accordance with the Bylaws of the Virginia State Bar, Part I, Article III, Sec. 3., Michael M. York of the law firm of Wehner & York, P.C. in Reston will be elected as the 2023-24 president-elect of the VSB at the 2023 Annual Meeting in June. His term as president-elect will begin July 1.

York is a current member of the Virginia State Bar Council and the Executive Committee. He chairs the Legal Ethics Committee and has served on the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee.

Prior to becoming an attorney, York was a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and investigative reporter who covered federal courts for The Washington Post. In 1994, he opened his own law office, focusing on litigation for corporate plaintiffs and defendants, as well as individuals in high-profile cases. His litigation practice has included class action lawsuits, multi-billion-dollar verdicts, whistle-blower disclosures, and criminal investigations. In addition, York maintains an active civil and white-collar criminal practice in state and federal courts. His clients have included whistleblowers, media groups, journalists, and national organizations.

A frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars, meetings, and other functions, he has appeared on ethics panels conducted by the D.C. Circuit Judicial Conference, Investigative Reporters and Editors, the FBI, the Justice Department, various universities, and the American Inns of Court.

York is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of North Carolina School of Law.
