Edward L. Chambers Jr. Receives Inaugural Memorial Award
Edward L. Chambers has posthumously received the inaugural Edward L. Chambers Jr. Lifetime Bar Service Award, a memorial award established by the Virginia State Bar to honor Chambers’s commitment to service to the Bar. The award, which was presented to his widow, Jane Sherman Chambers, at the 82nd VSB Annual Meeting in Virginia Beach on June 17, 2021, will be given annually in his name to a lawyer with extensive, longstanding bar volunteerism.
Chambers died suddenly on December 25, 2019, after suffering a heart attack. During his over 40 years as a lawyer in the Peninsula, Chambers was very active with the Virginia State Bar and served on many committees and task forces, including Bar Council, the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee on Professionalism, the Clients’ Protection Fund Board, and the Sixth District Disciplinary Committee. He was inducted as a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in 2010. Chambers also volunteered extensively with the York-Poquoson Bar, serving as its president from 1988 to 1989.
Jane Sherman noted of her husband, “His service to the VSB was the highlight of his career, truly. When he finished his service on Bar Council and the Executive Committee, he was then ready to retire.”
