Insurance for Lawyers

The VSB does not require lawyers to be covered by professional liability insurance (malpractice insurance), but it encourages them to purchase coverage, and active lawyers must report on their yearly dues statement whether they have coverage.

The malpractice insurance market is complex and offers many different options for Virginia lawyers. Lawyers should exercise caution and good judgment when comparing options to ensure protection for themselves and their clients if, and when, a claim is presented.
