79th Annual Meeting
June 15-18, 2017
This year’s meeting will truly be History in the Making! Doris E. Causey, of Central Virginia Legal Aid, will become the 79th President of the Virginia State Bar – where she will be the first African American and the first lawyer from Virginia’s legal aid community to serve as VSB President. Don’t miss this great moment in VSB history.
The meeting offers a great opportunity to spend leisure time with your family, stay abreast of current legal and professional issues, and socialize with your colleagues, all in the relaxed and informal setting of Virginia Beach. As you will see from the schedule, we are planning a variety of special activities in addition to an exciting lineup of diverse CLE offerings.
This year, all VSB CLEs will be held on Friday. The schedule has been expanded to offer eleven programs on multiple tracks. Our sections and conferences have collaborated with related legal organizations to present a number of practice-oriented CLEs, together with several timely programs that are expected to have broad-based appeal to the all members of the bar.
As happens once every four years, the Young Lawyers Conference will sponsor a lively debate of the candidates for Attorney General of Virginia on Saturday.
The Conference of Local Bar Associations, the Diversity Conference, the Senior Lawyers Conference, and the Young Lawyers Conference will each sponsor special events and award presentations during the meeting. On Saturday morning, the Senior Lawyers Conference will host a special event to honor this year’s 50-Year Award recipients.
On Friday, section and conference members will gather for a joint Section & Conference Luncheon. This will be a great opportunity to reconnect with your colleagues in a casual atmosphere and catch up on section and conference business. Be sure to register for this event.
The Annual Banquet on Friday evening remains the highlight of the meeting. Be sure to register for this event and join the celebration as Doris Causey is sworn in as the next VSB president. Also, on Friday evening, join the party in Neptune Park, featuring Slapnation Band. Don’t miss the fun at this lively, outdoor venue adjacent to the Hilton Oceanfront Hotel.
The weekend will include the usual array of athletic activities, including golf, the 5k run, tennis, volleyball, and early morning yoga on the beach. Also, be sure to attend the ever-popular Family Bingo on Friday afternoon. There will be great prizes and giveaways at the Closing Raffle Reception on Saturday!
The City of Virginia Beach will provide private, complimentary shuttle service between hotels during the weekend. You also can stroll along the boardwalk between hotels and enjoy the annual art show that will be right in front of some of our hotels this year. Our Annual Meeting mobile app (link to come) is available now to keep you up-to-date on the schedule and location of all activities.
