Traver Scholar Award Recipient 2017 - Kay M. Creasman

Kay M. Creasman

Kay M. Creasman, assistant vice president and counsel for Old Republic Title in Virginia, has received the 2017 Traver Scholar Award. The Traver Scholar Award is awarded by the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar and Virginia Continuing Legal Education to honor men and women who embody the highest ideals and expertise in the practice of real estate law. Traver Scholars are Real Property Section members who have made significant contributions to the practice of real property law generally and the Section specifically, and have generously shared their knowledge with others.

Ms. Creasman has been active as an Area Representative for the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar since 2010 involved with multiple committees, has been on the Board of Governors since 2013, and currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Board.

In 2010 Ms. Creasman received the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Land Title Association, having been active in VLTA since 1993, serving as President in 2003-2004.

She has been a frequent speaker on real estate issues for Virginia CLE, Old Republic agent seminars, Virginia Land Title Association, as well as a guest speaker on real estate at Virginia Commonwealth University. Throughout her career she has been in private practice, owned and operated a high volume non-attorney title insurance agency, and worked for title underwriters. She has been with Old Republic since March, 2008 solving problems with practical solutions for title and settlement agents throughout Virginia.

The award is named for the “father” of Virginia real estate lawyers, Courtland L. Traver, whose outstanding legal ability and willingness to share his knowledge and experience was an inspiration to others.
