1998 Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Award Recipient

The Honorable Richard H. Poff

The Honorable Richard H. Poff, senior justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, received the 1998 Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Award from the Virginia State Bar’s Criminal Law Section at the 28th annual Criminal Law Seminar.

The award, established in 1992 in honor of Carrico, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, recognizes a singular and unique contribution to the improvement of the criminal justice system in Virginia.

Poff served on the high court from 1972-88. As a former longtime member of the U.S. House of Representatives, he worked on many significant pieces of criminal legislation, including the Omnibus Crime Control Act of 1968 and a bill that led to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act of 1970.
