Board of Governors Meeting


NOVEMBER 2, 2007 at 7:30 a.m.

I. CALL TO ORDER
The November meeting of the Board of Governors was called to order at 7:30a.m. by Jack Rephan, Chair. The following members of the Board of Governors participated: Jack Rephan (Chair), Richard Smith (Vice Chair), Greg St. Ours(Secretary), Elaine Jordan, Kristan Burch, Brett Marston, Richard McGrath, Webb Moore, Shannon Briglia, Mike Branca, Derrick Rosser and Todd Metz. Link Christin of Virginia CLE also attended.

II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the September 5, 2007 Meeting in Virginia Beach, Virginia were unanimously approved without correction.

III. MEMBERSHIP/FINANCIAL REPORT
There was no membership or financial report.

IV. SUMMER MEETING 2008
Richard Smith confirmed that the Summer meeting is June 19-22, the deadline to submit topics for the program is November 16, 2007, and the deadline to arrange housing needs for speakers is May 1, 2008. Sean Howley will proceed on this, and Dolly Shaffner will assist as Section Liaison.

V. FALL CONFERENCE 2007 & FUTURE
Link Christin reported on the status of the fall conference in progress. Discussion ensued re future conferences at Kings Mill or return to Boars Head Inn after renovation.

VI. HANDBOOK/CD
Brett Marston reported that the Handbook/CD committee will consolidate 2007and 2008 case law.

VII. NEWSLETTER
Todd Metz reported that though the Newsletter was 'Yfitten an assembled in time to be published and distributed well in advance of the Fall Conference, the publisher took almost a month to publish and distribute. Thus, although some Section members had received the Newsletter within the previous day or two, others had not.

VIII. PUBLICATIONS
Webb More reported that he had commitments for articles to include in the October, 2008 issue of the Virginia Lawyer. The deadline for articles is July 31, 2008.

IX. WEBSITE
Kristan Burch confirmed that Section by-laws, minutes and newsletters, an index of Fall Conference programs and outlines, Virginia Lawyer articles, and the 2007 Fall Conference are on, or will shortly be uploaded onto, the website. Kristan will investigate the capacity of loading the CD material onto the password protected portion of the website.

X. COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Jack Rephan presented an up-to-date list of 2007-2008 committee assignments, a copy of which is attached.

XI. CONSTRUCTION LAW VIRGINIA CLE NOTEBOOK
Link Christin reported that he has commitments for chapters in a Construction Law Practice Manual that the Virginia CLE would like to publish. A deadline of December 2007 for drafts was mentioned.

XII. NEXT MEETING
The date of the next meeting of the Board of Governors is to be scheduled for February, 2008, tentatively to be handled via telephone conference.

XIV. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
