Proposed Amendments to the MCLE Regulations
to include a limitation on pre-recorded CLE programs
On October 19, 2009, the Mandatory Legal Education Board tentatively approved various proposed amendments, pending comment by the bar, to reflect current policies relating to course approval standards, course sponsor responsibilities and attorney compliance reporting procedures. The proposed changes support the Virginia State Bar’s move to provide information and reporting capabilities on the VSB website. Also included is an eight-credit-hour limitation on pre-recorded CLE programs. This change would require attorneys to certify attendance at four or more hours of MCLE approved live, interactive programs to include traditional live programs, live telephone seminars and live webcasts.
Comments or questions may be submitted in writing to Gale Cartwright, MCLE Board, Virginia State Bar, 707 East Main Street, Suite 1500, Richmond, Virginia 23219, to be received no later than close of business on December 30, 2009.
