- 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Introduction to the Changing Face of Poverty in the United States, by John V. Moeser, Professor Emeritus of Urban Studies and Planning at Virginia Commonwealth University and Senior Fellow in the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement at the University of Richmond, with excerpts from “The Line,” an award-winning documentary film directed by Linda Midgett. Andrea Bridgeman, Associate General Counsel of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Association, "Freddie Mac" will moderate the program.
- 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. (2 hours CLE – Ethics) Eradicating the Justice Gap: Rule 6.1 and Other Tools. John Whitfield, Executive Director of Blue Ridge Legal Services, will review both the World Justice Project’s 2012 Comparative Rule of Law Index and Virginia’s existing “justice gap,” and will examine the Virginia lawyer’s ethical obligation under Rule 6.1 of the Virginia Rules for Professional Conduct.
- 4:00 – 4:30 p.m. (.5 hour CLE) Presentation by Scott Oostdyk, partner at McGuireWoods, LLP, on Richmond’s model Firms in Service project, and a demonstration by Ali Fannon, Director of Programs and Development of the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation, of the new JusticeServer online pro bono database tool.
7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Pro Bono Awards Ceremony moderated by VSB President W. David Harless honoring the volunteer Virginia attorneys affiliated with the Lewis B. Puller Jr. Veterans Benefits Clinic at William & Mary Law School and Washington & Lee Law Student Monica Tulchinsky. At the Library of Virginia, 800 East Broad Street, Richmond.
