Virginia State Bar E-News, January 2016

The Supreme Court of Virginia has adopted amendments to:

  • Rule 3C:2: Uniform Fine Schedule, effective December 17, 2015;
  • Rule 5.5: Unauthorized Practice of Law; Multijurisdictional Practice of Law, effective February 1, 2016;
  • Rule 8.3: Reporting Misconduct, effective February 1, 2016;
  • Paragraph 13: Procedure for Disciplining, Suspending, and Disbarring Attorneys, effective March 1, 2016;
  • Rule 1.1: Competence, effective March 1, 2016;
  • Rule 1.6: Client Confidentiality, effective March 1, 2016.

The 46th Annual Criminal Law Seminar, sponsored by the VSB Criminal Law Section and Virginia CLE, will be February 5 in Williamsburg and February 12 in Charlottesville.

Volunteers are needed to serve on the Virginia State Bar’s boards and committees. The Nominating Committee will refer nominees to the VSB Council for consideration at its June meeting.

The Standing Committee on Lawyer Discipline calls for nominations for district committee vacancies to be filled by the VSB Council in June

Registration is open for the February 19-20 Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys 9th Annual UnProgram at the Boar's Head Inn, Charlottesville.

The annual Law in Society essay contest for high school students is accepting entries.

Save the date for the YLC Celebration of Women and Minorities in the Legal Profession Bench Bar Dinner on March 23 at University of Richmond Jepson Alumni Center.
