Virginia State Bar E-News, December 2015

The Virginia State Bar is seeking comments on proposed amendments to the policies and procedures of the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee.

The VSB is seeking comments on a proposal to fund the Diversity Conference  from mandatory dues.

Effective February 1, 2016, The Supreme Court of Virginia has approved amendments to two rules:

  • Rule 5.5: Unauthorized Practice of Law; Multijurisdictional Practice of Law.
  • Rule 8.3: Reporting Misconduct.

Experienced judges and lawyers will provide practice tips at the First Day in Practice seminar. The December 10 seminar is sponsored by the VSB General Practice Section and the Young Lawyers Conference. Six CLE credits, two ethics (pending). Space is limited.

The MCLE Form 1 End of Year Report deadline is 4:45 p.m. on December 15.

Volunteers are needed to serve the Virginia State Bar’s boards and committees. The Nominating Committee will refer nominees to the VSB Council for consideration at its June meeting.

The 46th Annual Criminal Law Seminar, sponsored by the VSB Criminal Law Section and Virginia CLE, will be February 5 in Williamsburg and February 12 in Charlottesville.

The VSB is seeking nominations for the following awards:

President-elect Robinson seeks members for Virginia State Bar committees with terms commencing July 1, 2016.

The Standing Committee on Lawyer Discipline calls for nominations for district committee vacancies to be filled by the VSB Council in June

Registration is open for the April 25 VSB TECHSHOW at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

The annual Law in Society essay contest for high school students is accepting entries.

Save the date for the YLC Celebration of Women and Minorities in the Legal Profession Bench Bar Dinner on March 23 at University of Richmond Jepson Alumni Center.
