Court-Appointed Criminal Defense Lawyers: Instructional Video for Fee-Cap Waiver Forms Is Available on Web


A new training video posted today on the Virginia State Bar’s Web site provides information to court-appointed attorneys on the recent amendments to Code § 19.2-163. The training includes detailed information on how to fill out the forms needed to apply for waivers of the statutory fee caps.

The video presentation, titled “Waivers of Statutory Fee Caps for Court-Appointed Counsel,??? was produced by the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Lawyers can access the training by logging onto the Member’s Area of the site, https://member.vsb.org/vsbportal/. The site is available to VSB members only.

The instructions apply to forms available on Virginia’s Judicial System Web site, at http://www.courts.state.va.us/news/2007_0626_waivers_of_statutory_fee_caps.html.

The training session, slightly more than eighteen minutes long, is best viewed through high-speed Internet connections. Attorneys without high-speed access may request a CD by calling Dawn Chase in the VSB Publications Office at (804) 775-0586 and leaving their addresses and telephone numbers. Please limit requests to one CD per firm.
