The Standing Committee on Legal Ethics is seeking public comments on proposed amendments to Rules 5.5 Comment [1a] and 8.3(e) of the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct. 

The Ethics Committee also has issued LEO 1876 as final: “Ethical Obligations Of A Prosecutor Who Plea Bargains With An Unrepresented Defendant Whom The Prosecutor Has Been Informed Is A Noncitizen Subject To Deportation Under Immigration Law Upon Conviction Of The Offense Which Is The Subject Of The Plea Offer.”

The Supreme Court of Virginia has released for public comment The Report of the Special Committee on Criminal Discovery Rules to the Chief Justice and Justices of the Supreme Court of Virginia. Comments on the proposed rules must be received by June 30, 2015.

Online registration will be available soon for the 77th Annual Meeting, June 18-21, 2015, in Virginia Beach.

The Supreme Court of Virginia will honor the 30th anniversary of Virginia Lawyers Helping Lawyers with a ceremony at the Court on April 14.

The 45th Annual Criminal Law Seminar, sponsored by the VSB Criminal Law Section and Virginia CLE, has a video replay scheduled for April 30 in several locations.

VSB awards:

The Conference of Local Bar Associations is accepting nominations for Awards of Merit, the Local Bar Leader of the Year Award, and the Bar Association of the Year Award. The nomination deadline is April 24, 2015.
