Highlights of October Council Meeting Online — At its October 17 meeting, Virginia State Bar Council endorsed an opt-out Member Directory, raised assessments against sanctioned attorneys, and rejected a mandatory malpractice insurance proposal.
Council to Consider CRESPA, Rules of Court Changes — Proposed changes to the VSB regulations under the Virginia Consumer Real Estate Protection Act and Part 6, Section IV, Paragraph 19 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Virginia will be reviewed by the VSB Council on February 28, 2009. Comments are due February 6.
Ethics, Advertising Committees Seek Input — The Standing Committee on Legal Ethics is seeking comments on proposed LEO 1844, Ethical Duty of Guardian Ad Litem to Investigate and Report Allegations of Child Abuse and Neglect, and proposed LEO 1846, Is it Ethical for a Lawyer to Become a Member of a Lead-Sharing Organization? The Standing Committee on Lawyer Advertising and Solicitation is seeking comments on a proposed new section to LEO 1750, Advertising Issues, and a proposed amendment to Rule 7.4(d) regarding advertising specialty certifications. Comments are due December 17.
