Comment on rule proposals – The Standing Committee on Legal Ethics is seeking public comment on proposals to be considered by the Virginia State Bar Council on June 17. The comment deadline is June 4. The proposals are:

  • Additional amendments to Rule 1.15 and Paragraph 20 regarding safekeeping property and maintenance of trust accounts.
  • Additional amendments to Rules 7.1-7.5 regarding lawyer advertising and solicitation.

Paragraph 10 amendments final – On March 19, the Supreme Court of Virginia approved amendments to Paragraph 10 regarding promulgation of legal ethics and unauthorized practice of law opinions.

MCLE amendments approved – Effective November 1, Virginia lawyers must earn at least four hours of mandatory continuing legal education credit through live interactive programs. This is among changes recently approved by the MCLE Board.

Interview program matches employers and law students – Southeastern Minority Job Fair. July 30-31, Marietta, GA – The job fair is wholly operated by law schools and is part of a consortium of sixty ABA-approved law schools located in the southeastern United States. Employer registration deadline is May 7. For further information go to http://www.semjf.org.
