Comments sought by the VSB Committee on Legal Ethics – LEO 1856, Scope of Practice for Foreign Lawyers in Virginia, and LEO 1858, May a Lawyer Agree to Indemnify an Insurance Company as a Condition of Settlement?
Corporate counsel pro bono rule approved – The Supreme Court of Virginia approved changes to Rule 1A:5 that lift limitations and expand opportunities for Part 1 corporate counsel to do pro bono work.
VSB dues to decrease for fiscal 2012 – Active-member dues will be $225, associate dues will be $112.50, and the Clients’ Protection Fund assessment will remain at $25.
VSB members can renew dues online starting in June – Virginia lawyers will be able to renew their membership, certify their liability insurance coverage, join VSB sections, and pay their dues through the VSB.org website.
Paragraph 11 change gives VSB more dues flexibility – The Supreme Court approved changes to Paragraph 11 that allows the bar to adjust its dues from year to year, with a ceiling of $250 for active members and $125 for associate members.
Solo & Small Firm Practitioner Forum – Microsoft Word for lawyers, document management, and trust accounting are topics at the forum on May 10, at U.Va.’s Darden School of Business in Charlottesville. (6 CLE credits, 1 ethics — approved). No charge to VSB members.
CLE at the Annual Meeting – Your annual meeting registration fee entitles you to attend the numerous CLE programs and special events scheduled by the Virginia State Bar on June 17–18.
