Nominations Sought for Special Board and Committee Vacancies — The VSB Nominating Committee, consisting of Howard W. Martin Jr., chair, Michael C. Guanzon, Judith L. Rosenblatt, Aubrey J. Rosser Jr., and Edna Ruth Vincent, calls for nominations for special board and committee vacancies to be filled by Council in June.
Foreign Legal Consultants — Lawyers who are licensed in a jurisdiction outside the U.S. now must be certified under Rule 1A:7 Certification of Foreign Legal Consultants if they want to establish an office and practice in Virginia to provide legal services based on the law of the foreign jurisdiction. The Supreme Court of Virginia adopted the rule on December 30, 2008, and it went into effect January 1, 2009.
Rule Changes to be Considered By VSB Council In February — Proposed rule and regulatory changes will be considered by the Virginia State Bar Council at its meeting on February 28, 2009, in Richmond. Links to the full text of the proposals are provided.
VSB to Evaluate Candidates for Judicial Vacancies — The Virginia State Bar has been asked by Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner to evaluate candidates for a vacancy on the U.S. District Court – Eastern District of Virginia (Richmond seat) and for a vacancy on the U.S. Court of Appeals – Fourth Circuit.
