ALERT: Red Flags Rule Compliance – The deadline for complying with the new FTC Red Flags Rule has been extended to November 1, 2009. Meanwhile, the American Bar Association continues to argue that lawyers are not creditors and should not be required to comply with the rule.
Virginia Is for Good Lawyers – Virginia State Bar President Jon D. Huddleston has launched his multimedia Virginia Is for Good Lawyers campaign with The Big Picture, a video series, and Reflections, a collection of essays by and about lawyers. You also can follow Huddleston on his blog, Raising the Bar, and on Twitter.
Nominations Sought – President Jon D. Huddleston has appointed a nominating committee to consider nominees for the 2010 Disciplinary Board, MCLE Board, and council members at-large vacancies to be filled by the Supreme Court. Vacancies begin on July 1, 2010 and the nominating committee’s recommendations will be acted on by the VSB Council in October 2009. Nominations accepted through Sept. 8, 2009.

LEOs 1845 and 1848 issued as final – The VSB Standing Committee on Legal Ethics issued the following LEOs as final: LEO 1845 “Use of Covert Tactics by the Virginia State Bar in Unauthorized Practice of Law Investigations” (June 16, 2009) and LEO 1848 “Use of Credit Cards for Legal Services” (April 14, 2009)
