MCLE Deadline Approaching — Attorneys must complete twelve continuing legal education hours, including two hours in ethics/professionalism, by October 31 to avoid paying non-compliance fees. Go to the Member’s Area Login to check your current MCLE report or certify course attendance.

LEO Focuses on Attorney/Prospective Client Confidentiality — The Committee on Legal Ethics is seeking public comment on Legal Ethics Opinion 1842, Obligations of a Lawyer who Receives Confidential Information via Law Firm Website or Telephone Voicemail. Comments are due by September 29.

Additional Changes Proposed to Paragraph 13 — Further restructuring of Paragraph 13 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Virginia will aid in finding disciplinary system procedural rules. Comments on the recommended changes are due October 3.

Public Service is Theme of Baliles’s Speech — At the July Solo & Small-Firm Practitioner Forum, former Gov. Gerald L. Baliles spoke about the decline and necessary revival of the citizen lawyer.
