Statement of Carolyn B. Lamm, President
American Bar Association
January 14, 2010
On behalf of the American Bar Association, I want to extend to our members and their family and friends in Haiti, the Haitian legal community, and the people of Haiti our deep condolences and full support following this week's terrible earthquake. The initial reports present a heartbreaking picture of destruction and suffering. We hope that the casualty figures will be less than so far indicated. But we know, unfortunately, that the suffering will be immense.
Haiti, and the Haitian people, will need significant humanitarian aid and assistance in order to recover and rebuild. I ask our members to fully support the humanitarian relief efforts underway in Haiti including efforts by organizations such as the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org), the United Nations Children’s Fund (www.unicef.org), and Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org).
The American Bar Association stands with the people of Haiti, and the Haitian legal community, and we are ready to assist in whatever way we can with such recovery.Updated: Jan 26, 2010
